Baby dreams may cause cot death (SIDS)

What your baby dreams about could be fatal. Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS), or cot death as it is more commonly known, could occur when babies stop breathing because they dream they are back in the womb, an Australian scientist said on Monday.

“The dreams make babies believe they are in the womb and their mother is giving them oxygen through the blood, so they don’t need to breathe”, said George Christos who has studied the way the brain processes information, “and they could stop breathing”.

It’s the leading cause of infant deaths for babies less than 1 year old.

More research is being done to see if baby dreams are a cause of SIDS.
