Expectant mother’s blood test may predict baby’s SIDS risk

A blood test on expectant mothers may predict a baby’s risk of sudden infant de ath syndrome (SIDS), suggests a new research.

According to The New Scientist, researches at the University of Cambridge have found that raised levels of a foetal protein called alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) in maternal blood could be an indication to SIDS.

Women with high levels of AFP in their blood are three times more likely to give birth to a baby that later di ed from SIDS as it results in baby being born with a low birth-weight and a greater risk of still birth, researchers found.
