High cholesterol is considered a silent killer because it has no symptoms.

Now health-conscious individuals can monitor total blood cholesterol levels safely and easily at home with this Lifestream kit.

More than one member of a household can use the monitor by inserting a Personal Health Care card with a PIN number (one card included; others available from pharmacies).

Data is downloaded onto the card, which can store more than 200 test results.

The monitor displays results and dates, and performs rolling averages of the last six readings to give a truer level.

To test for total cholesterol, the user pricks a finger with the included Softclix lancet device and squeezes a drop of blood onto a test strip. The strip is inserted into the monitor and three minutes later the result appears. Measurements display in the mg/dl format (or mml/L if desired), within a range of 150-300mg/dl. The monitor requires a 9-volt battery (not included).

A Lifestream Tracking Utility CD-ROM disk and an interface cable are included in the kit, allowing the user to upload data from the card/cholesterol monitor to a personal computer (Pentium II 200 MHz or higher).

Test results are shown in printable bar graph or line graph formats, and the software also performs a health risk assessment to calculate disposition toward heart disease.

This Lifestream cholesterol monitor kit features a special compartment for the Softclix lancet, snaps shut into a durable plastic case that measures 7 by 5 inches, and comes with a one-year warranty against defects.
