Infertility :: Treatment of non-obstructive azoospermia

Men with low sperm production or no sperm in their semen (azoospermia) have previously been considered untreatable or sterile.

However, current understanding is that there may now be hope for these men.

It is now believed that although the overall function of the testicle may be very abnormal, the testes are not uniform throughout and there may be one area of sperm production within the testis where sperm can be retrieved and later used to fertilize the woman’s egg.

Debate still exists as to the best way to retrieve the sperm and proceed to fertilization. This provides hope for the otherwise sterile man to be able to father a child.
