Safe Sex :: Britain encourages condom-carriers, campaign on safe sex

The Government has launched a hard-hitting safe sex campaign aimed at 18 to 24-year-olds. The 4-million-pound (1 pound is about 1.9 U.S. dollars) campaign will feature a series of TV, online, print and radio advertisements showing teenagers wearing pants with slogans such as “I’ve got gonorrhea” and “I’ll give you one,” with reference to sexually transmitted infections (STIs).

The TV advertisement will appear from Nov. 20, with the name of an STI displayed clearly on clothing or jewelry.

Semi-naked models wearing underwear adorned with slogans such as “I’ve Got Gonorrhoea” appear in a government campaign aimed at tackling a rise in sexual diseases among young people.

Advertisements also feature men and women in T-shirts emblazoned with the words “I’ll Give You One” above a headline explaining “it’s not this easy to tell” if someone is infected.

Public Health Minister Caroline Flint said she hoped the advertisements would alert young people to the risks and would encourage them to use condoms.
