Speaking at the Florence Nightingale Awards for Nursing Personnel, the Indian Health And Family Welfare Minister, Dr. Anbumani Ramados said that under the National Rural Health Mission project, the country requires about 2 lakh nursing personnel to provide comprehensive health care.
In order to achieve the requirements of NRHM, State Governments have been advised to enhance the capacity of the ANMs and GNMs by establishing additional nursing training institutions.
Welcoming the outstanding personalities of nursing profession from all over the country who have come to receive the award, he said, undoubtedly, it is your hard work, commitment and perseverance that has brought you all to this stage of achievement and helped to bag the prestigious national award.
The Minister said that said that way back in 1989, the last National Award function was held. I feel proud to announce that His Excellency Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam have conferred to revive this achievement awards once again and I consider myself fortunate for organizing this ceremony in its own grace and also to name it as “Florence Nightingale Award”.
His Excellency Dr. A P J Abdul Kalam the President of India, presented the awards To seventeen nursing personnel for their meritorious services. Smt. Panabaka Lakshmi, Minister of State, Shri Naresh Dayal, Secretary Health and Family Welfare were also present at the function.
