Madonna and the Super Bowl halftime show

Queen of pop Madonna dazzled football fans and a television audience of more than 100 million when she performed her highly anticipated half-time show during Super Bowl. She was the first female headliner since Janet Jackson and her “wardrobe malfunction” in 2004.

The Super Bowl is the annual championship game of the National Football League (NFL), the highest level of professional American football in the United States, culminating a season that begins in the late summer of the previous calendar year. This game is held at a selected site, usually a city that hosts an NFL team. The Super Bowl uses Roman numerals to identify each game, rather than the year in which it is held, with Super Bowl I being the 1966 season championship game. The Super Bowl XLVI was be played at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, on February 5, 2012, to determine the champion of the 2011 season between the New York Giants and the New England Patriots.

Madonna was carried Cleopatra-style into the Indianapolis stadium by a cadre of muscled gladiators.

Wearing Egyptian regalia, complete with golden headdress, the singer launched into her seminal hit Vogue, followed by Music and then her new single Give Me All Your Luvin’.

She closed her act with Like A Prayer.
