Lymphoma expert Richard I. Fisher, M.D., director of the James P. Wilmot Cancer Center, will discuss the role biology plays in the future treatment of lymphomas as part of a lecture series highlighting biological and biomedical research at the University of Rochester.

Fisher will lead the discussion at 4 p.m. Friday, July 13, in the Ryan Case Method Room (1-9576.) Drinks and light snacks follow in the Forbes Mezzanine (1-9580). The talk is the latest installment of the ?Second Friday Science Social? lecture series geared mainly to faculty, staff and students at the University, although the general public is welcome to attend. The lectures are free.

?The survival rate for lymphoma has risen sharply in recent decades with advances in research and the development of novel therapies. Further advances will come as we are able to understand critical genes that permit lymphoma cells to survive and develop agents specifically to interrupt those pathways,? said Fisher, vice president for Clinical Services for the University of Rochester Medical Center.

Fisher, an internationally known expert in biological research and treatment of lymphoma, has established one of the largest programs in the Northeast at the Wilmot Cancer Center. He has led numerous national and international studies in Hodgkin?s disease and non-Hodgkin?s lymphoma.
