Holi is round the corner. Before you get covered with gulal, here are some tips to protect your skin, eyes and hair.

One should see that gulal does not fall into the eyes, as the small bits of mica (chamkili) in gulal can cause abrasions and loss of sight.

Contact lens users should refrain from using their lenses as colours contain lead, chromium, sulphates and other chemical components that may result in excessive dryness of the lenses. This can lead to eye allergies, dryness of the cornea and even blindness.

If the colour goes into your eyes, wash off immediately with clean tap water.

Do not use eye drops on your own, as the preservatives used in eye drops, like benzalkonium chloride and thimerosal, can worsen dry eyes.
