Dental Health :: How To Floss Correctly

How To Floss Correctly … Important tips to maintain oral health, dental care and dental health.

Normal brushing only cleans three out of five surfaces of your teeth. The remaining two surfaces (between your teeth) therefore need special attention to avoid the build-up of plaque and food particles. Because tooth decay and gum disease often start in these areas, you need to use dental floss everyday.

  1. Take about 45cm (18 inches) of floss and wind the ends around your middle fingers.
  2. Use your thumbs to guide floss gently and carefully between upper teeth and under the gum line. Avoid ?snapping? floss against the gums.
  3. Curve floss around each tooth and use an up-and-down motion to remove harmful plaque. Remember to clean each tooth separately and thoroughly.
  4. Use index fingers to guide floss gently between lower teeth. Again curve the floss around each tooth and use the same motion.
